Naama (Amanda) Machado

My name is Naama Machado. I am a wife and mom to 5 children. From a young age, I wanted to be a mom and have a large family. When I was 16, I babysat for a dear family who was having their 7th child at home with midwives. I was so amazed and in awe of this experience that I began researching and dreaming of how I would welcome my children into the world.

I was born via cesarean section due to my mother being a type 1 diabetic. My family did not understand my passion to give birth naturally, much less at home. However, they supported me and my choices and I have had 5 different, yet amazing home birth experiences.

I love pregnancy, birth and squishy newborns! I love supporting moms and helping them navigate through all of their options during pregnancy, childbirth, and baby’s first year. I do not expect women to make the same choices I made. We are all writing our own birth story, and my job is to give you information and support. I will give you the power to make the choices that are right for you in whatever scenario you may encounter.

It is an honor to serve mothers, fathers, newborns and their siblings!

I absolutely loved having Amanda as my doula. We started working together from the moment I found out I was pregnant. That made it so much easier to know what I wanted early on. I moved to the US 2 years ago and had ZERO knowledge on how hospitals and doctors worked here. That’s why having a doula made things so much easier for me. Amanda explained all of the procedures, concepts, types of deliveries, midwife options, how to research for the best doctor and hospital based on the type of birth I wanted, my husband’s role and so much more. She always made time to answer all of my questions, spoke peace over all my fears and doubts in a very loving way and overall just made me feel that I could have a good birthing experience.

I gave birth February 20th and I was so glad I had Amanda as my doula. She was there from the moment I called her. My labor was quicker than what I had expected.  I couldn’t really labor as much at home as I had originally thought I would but I had the tens unit at home ready and it felt sooo good. It helped me relax and breathe through each contraction. Even though I had Plan A, B, C, by the time I had contractions I completely forgot about all the breathing excercises, positions to manage pain, etc. Having her was such a blessing as she guided me every step, suggested different positions I could try. She reminded me to breathe through each contraction. She gave me massages and the oh sooo needed and amazing counter pressures and just kept reminding me through it all that I was one contraction closer from having my baby.

I wanted a non-medicated birth, no epidural, no drugs or anything. This was important for me, but I had no idea if I was going to be able to manage the pain. Amanda always encouraged me and said I could do it and I was able. Having her with me in the delivery room during each contraction she would remind me that I was doing a good job and that she was proud and just kept giving me words of affirmation that I honestly never thought of asking for medication.

For me, having a doula was the help I needed. I had my amazing husband love on me through my labor and delivery and Amanda was the emotional support I needed to get through the pain and guided me in having the best birthing experience I could.

Amanda is loving, passionate and she truly cares. Having her as your doula is one of the best decisions you can make for yourself and your family. She will encourage you, respect your decisions, guide you through your process and just help you in any way she can so that you can truly enjoy every step of the way into meeting your sweet and precious baby.

I highly recommend having Amanda as your doula! She was incredible and helped us so much in the hospital for our birth! Both my husband and I are so thankful we were able to use her services and hope to be able to use her again in the future!

Amanda was my 3rd private lactation consultant to help me on my very challenging breastfeeding journey. My son was not gaining weight well through nursing and bottle feeding and had horrible reflux. She was the only one who suggested my son may have a tongue and lip tie and gave me a recommendation for a wonderful pediatric dentist. She was correct and he had both ties treated and his feeding issues were resolved within weeks. I wish I knew Amanda earlier and I will be sure to call her when we have our next baby! She had such a calming presence and I felt so supported and appreciate her follow up.
